Executive summary
- The number of building plans approved by the City of Windhoek declined to 288 in November 2020 from 336 recorded for October 2020. See Figure 1.
- A decline in the monthly building plans approved by the City of Windhoek was influenced by addition, wall, commercial and house plans.
- During the month of November 2020, the city of Windhoek approved 165 addition,104 house ,13 wall ,4 pool and 2 commercial plans, valued at N$ 239 061 989.
Analysis
- On an annual basis the number of building plans approved for Windhoek experienced growth of 25.18% moving up from 6.58% that was recorded for November 2019, the annual growth was driven by the addition and house plans. See figure 2.
- The highest number of building plans approved for November 2020, were from Windhoek suburb, with a total of 48 plans (33 addition plans, 12 house plans,2 pool plans and 1 commercial plan ), valued at N$ 84 989 995.
- Otjomuise suburb, had the second highest number of building plans approved in November 2020, with a total of 43 plans (28 house plans ,14 addition plans and 1 commercial plan. and 2 walls), at the value of N$ 33 800 714.
- Hakahana suburb, had the least number of building plans approved in November 2020, with 1 addition plan.
Outlook
- Windhoek’s construction industry continues to face strong headwinds as consumers and businesses confidence has waned due to the covid-19 induced measures.
- We anticipate for a decline in the building plans for December 2020 as most construction companies will close for the holiday season.
