Local News

The Central Procurement Board of Namibia has been prohibited from implementing or executing any procurement contract awarded to Cospharm Investments (Sun Newspaper)

Momentum Metropolitan, based in South Africa and with operations in Namibia, has reported a historic peak in normalised headline earnings (NHE) of N$5.1 billion for the 12 months ended 30 June 2023. Operating profit surged by 31% to N$4.4 billion, up from N$3.4 billion the previous year. (New Era Newspaper)

Workers’ unions have lashed out at the government over the slow implementation of a national minimum wage. Acting executive director of labour, industrial relations, and employment creation Lydia Indombo yesterday confirmed the ministry is yet to implement a minimum wage for workers. The Monetary Policy Committee has been left with little room to manoeuvre when it announces its interest rate decision on Thursday after annual consumer price inflation rose for the first time in four months. (News24)

Ghana’s economic growth slowed slightly to 3.2% year-on-year in the second quarter compared with a downwardly revised 3.3% growth rate in the first quarter, the country’s statistics agency said on Wednesday. (CNBC Africa)

Canada this week divulged it had intelligence possibly linking Indian government agents to the murder of a separatist Sikh leader, the kind of news that usually sparks uproar among democratic allies. Not this time. (Reuters News)

Asian stocks rose broadly on Thursday after a highly anticipated U.S. inflation report did little to alter market expectations for the path of rate hikes. Fed funds futures currently imply no chance of a rate hike next week and about a 45 percent chance. (RTT News)

Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman (MBS) has said that his country was moving steadily closer to normalizing relations with Israel, following similar moves from other Gulf countries, and amid a big push by the United States for a Saudi-Israeli deal. (Aljazeera News)
