Executive summary
- The City of Windhoek approved a total of 193 building plans for May 2021, down from 268 building plans approved in April 2021. See figure 1
- The decline in the number of building plans approved for May 2021 was driven by additions and wall plans.
- The City of Windhoek approved a total of 105 addition plans,78 house plans,6 wall plans and 4 commercial plans, valued at N$ 173 225 878 for May 2021.
- Addition plans makes up the largest contribution to the Windhoek’s construction sector with a contribution of about 57.1% during the first five months of 2021.
Analysis
- On an annual basis the number of building plans approved for Windhoek experienced a robust growth from (-13.29) to ( 33.27%),this was driven by additions and house plans. See figure 2
- The highest number of building plans approved for May 2021, were from Khomasdal suburb, with a total of 26 plans ( 13 addition plans, 11 house and 2 wall plans, valued at N$ 17 394 000.
- Goreangab suburb recorded the second highest number of building plans approved for May 2021 recording a total of 25 plans (22 house plans and 3 addition plans valued at N$ 22 846 906.
Outlook
- We project for an upward trend for Windhoek construction sector and driven by additions for June 2021.
